Let it snow...

It doesn't happen too often here, but when it does, it's magical and you have to seize the moment. Which is why we were running around like idiots at 7.45 this morning. And it's a good thing we did, because by eleven o'clock all the snow had gone.

It was the first time Johnny has really seen snow - magical.

And my CD shelves are painted and up - in the end, I matched their colour to the spines of my favourite Penguin Twentieth Century Classics. My paperbacks are all arranged by colour - makes for very pleasing shelves. How do you do yours?

This makes me laugh - mine are arranged by however they happen to get put on the shelf, if they manage to make it back to the shelf. Standing up, lying down, whatever!

We are definitely different on the "J", "P", scale - thank god. The world would run itself into the ground without you "J's"!!!!

I'm afraid we use the boring alphabetical by author method (except for biographies which are alphabetical by subject). But we have 4 tall bookshelves full and need a serious order enforced otherwise we wouldn't find anything. We also have our books separated into genres. Sad, I know. Same for cds actually. I'm soooo anally retentive. Or perhaps it's a hangover from working in a bookshop? I'll plead the latter.

(Sorry about deleting then posting again. For some reason I can't preview before posting, and once I had, I realised there was a horrid spelling mistake. See, I am anally retentive)

Mine are by size - I hate it when there's one tall one poking up. Within the sizes, I don't really worry, but sometimes they're themed - however I feel like doing it. Shelf space is limited at my house, so sometimes my books are stored inappropriately. But I do love them. I dream of a day when my books will have the breathing/display room that they so richly deserve.

Your shelves made me smile - they ARE that colour, aren't they? I'm assuming you chose that, and it's not just a happy accident.

Note: my verification word is fyerkis. does that sound like it should mean something to you?

Ali, it's so bizarre that we haven't had any snow up here in Scotland this week and it seems that everywhere further down the country is covered in snow!

Love your cd shelves! Great colour.

my books... when they'll emerge from the depth of the garage (we've ordered shelves, but they won't be done till March - don't start me on this)... are diplayes by publishers. Hardbacks with hardbacks and paperbacks with paperbacks... but in strictly publishers order. And withing that by author and series. It really annoys me when authors change publishers. I mean, what do I do then?

Our snow lasted very little too. Sigh.

I do genre first, then colour and then size. We have a lot of impressive looking history books and, I'm ashamed to say, they go on display in the "company room" whilst my millions of paperbacks are currently on the march to my craft room!

Love those cd shelves! Nice to have the clutter hidden.

THat is the way with our once every 3 or 4 years snow too -- gotta enjoy the moment cause it is gone really quick. Looks like you got quite a bit though!

Ahh... the snow. Wish it had lasted.

We organize by default. Most read books are on the end where they can be reached!

I wish I could be that organised, but my Billy Bookcases (Ikea) are a very busy chaotic mess of stuff that I have to hunt through everytime I need something that I know is there somewhere! Your cd boxes are lovely.

Love the snow picture! I completely understand not getting much snow....we don't get much in Portland either. However we just had some and when it lasts more than a day or so I get impatient with it! Love the bookshelves too! Mine tend to get placed on the shelf in a very unorganized fashion... but I may be inspired to do something about that! :)

Oh, Ali - you should be married to my husband - love of Penguins and colour coded - we have a littl shelf in our 'smallest room' - it is almost at the ceiling - everything is white in the room - walls, floorboards etc ecept for this little shelf of vintage penguins arranged by colour!
