I've had a little idea brewing ever since I saw the Autumn 2007 Boden preview catalogue. It's not finished yet, but it's getting there.
I'm not sure if it really fits the 'needlework sampler' project for the first assignment over at School of Craft. Does it Moki? It's got embroidery on it hasn't it? Sort of...
Is it hideous to get your inspiration from Boden? It's just that I am SO sucked in by their lifestyle proposition. Shiny happy children, healthy outdoorsy pursuits, fun and domesticity. What's not to like. Oh, apart from the hefty price tag. That's what gives me a serious case of the I-could-do-thats. Appliqued t-shirts? Tick. Stencilled t-shirts? Tick.
This satchel... not so easy. So I ordered it. Yes, I know it's make-your-own-bag month over at Sew Mama Sew, but I couldn't resist. Don't boot me out of the crafty club. Pretty please.

Love the satchel and I'm curious about the peak you've given us. Great combination of butttons and fabric.
Love the button flower - can't wait to see the whole picture.
Very intriguing...love Boden, but agree with you about the prices. I've been thinking about embroidery a lot lately (sad but true), must be going to be the next best thing I think - as everywhere I look someone is embroidering something.
I will get around to finishing my a-line skirt inspired by Boden's Summer collection. Another 'I can do that but cheaper' moment! I suppose it might be finished by next summer!
Oh it looks beautiful! I can't wait to see the entire thing when you are done. Thanks for the link to sew mama sew!
That satchel is a beauty, I'm having to sit on my hands so I don't follow in your footsteps and make a big purchase!
I think your skirt is more beautiful than anything I've seen in their catalogue though. I can't wait to see the whole thing.
ha ha! Well yesit's got some stitching, so I assume it qualifies ;)
wow..those button flowers look so good. I want to see. I want to see.
This is really pretty. I'm not surprised you couldn't resist the bag. I usually fall for Boden at least once per season - but even though they're pricey I think the quality of their clothes is really good - the children's stuff lasts and lasts, even with my rotten laundry skills!
All of my friends are completely Boden mad one even sneaked her son out of school so she could take him to the shop in London. Me, I think eBay was invented so that you can buy Boden at reasonable prices. I think what you are doing looks fantastic so good luck.
Boden really know what they're doing don't they? They suck us in with the lovely photos and they we notice the price tag! Love the look of your button/embroidery . please show us the end result.

PS I did have a very stiff drink at the end of the party (and we're not talking a cup of tea!)
you naughty girl! I got that catalogue too... and I'm desperately trying to NOT to buy anything...
can't wait to see your 'sampler'...
I'm intrigued by the glimpse of buttons...as a button addict I can't wait to see what you've been up to with yours.

mmmmm very intriguing.
I totally understand what you mean about Boden, lovely stuff!
What are you up to with the buttons etc? can't wait to see, I'm loveing it already!
Yes, you could try to make the satchel... but I prefer to follow the Hannibal Lecter approach to bags.... buy a good one that lasts longer than the liver & chianti! It's an investment buy, isn't it? (and that's what I usually tell my DH when he cottons on to my latest soft purchase!)
that is a sweet looking project...
That's a lovely bag!
The lifestyle in the catalogue really sucks you in doesn't it. Buy the clothes and you too will be transported to a magical lifestyle with houses with large gardens and library-type rooms where you can sit looking pensive, before going out to some flash cafe...
PS Who's got my catalogue?
such lovely button flowers!! thanks for the link to school of craft. way cool!
i think i've seen the top that has inspired the button flower, it is a lovely idea. i have one of their skirts from last year that has buttons and embroidery along the hem. i love it but can't wear it very often as my son likes to pull the buttons off it!
Personally I say congrats on conquering the crafters' disease, 'Icouldmakethatitis' and both buying the choice pieces, and using the rest as inspiration!
Lovely button flower, can wait to see the finished result. Talking of boden, have you read this article by Kate Muir in the TImes:

It made me giggle!

I do love your button detailing and I'm completely with you on your Boden satchel purchase but I'm rather jealous too as I've not had my preview copy yet - I've obviously not been buying enough from them recently and have dropped off their premium customer list!! Either that or my husband has been intercepting them - Hmmm, could be time to rummage through the recycle bin!
I always look at the boden catalogue, but have never bought anything from there. My price range generally comes in at the charity shop level, and I'm always worried that I'd order the wrong size then have to go through the palava of sendding it back - love Julia x
It looks lovely!
I too love Boden for inspiration (as well as the odd guilty purchase...their boots are completely divine!).
I love the way you've tied the threads off on your buttons - it looks lovely.
